In Decatur, In the North Adams Community School Board announced that at the end of this school year they will have to cut 12 teaching jobs from the local schools. The site the reason as being a decrease in the number of students enrolled in North Adams school district. This decline in enrollment directly relates to declined funding from the state for the North Adams Community Schools. Budget concerns due to the reduced funding is primary reason for the job cuts. In addition, there are several other teachers that will be retiring, including the principal of Bellmont Middle School. It is unfortunate that these job cuts must take place. We hope all of those displaced find suitable employment in other schools within the Decatur area.
