General Electric one of America’s oldest and largest companies announced it is looking to sell its appliances business. They have hired Goldman Sachs to conduct the auctioning of the long standing part of the General Electric Company. General Electric left the Decatur, In facility many years ago but still has a pretty large presence in the Fort Wayne Indiana area. What this will mean to General Electric employees in Fort Wayne has yet to be determined. The General Electric had sold of part of the motors business a few years ago that was also located in Fort Wayne Indiana resulting in several job losses. I’ll keep everyone updated as more news of the potential sale of General Electric Appliances unfolds. It’s hard to believe that a company so well known for its small appliances such as toasters, refrigerators, microwaves and lightbulbs cant survive in today’s economy. Having many friends, family and acquaintances that have either worked at GE or retired from their this news comes as a big shock to me. I’ll keep everyone updtaed on the lastest information as it becomes public. How the selling of GE Appliances will impact Fort Wayne economy hopefully will be answered soon.

Hi,
I thought I would comment as I work at one of the GE facilities in Ft. Wayne. The GE facility at Ft. Wayne is not considered part of the Appliances business and is not included in the portions of GE involved in the potential sale.

GE is all about making money for its stock holders. Aerospace, medical equip, and aquisitions are GEs bread and butter. China is where you get your toasters and other lead based household items now.
