Back To School Time Already

Summer vacation is drawing to a close for Decatur students and parents. Minds are turning towards the dreaded back to school shopping. The never ending quest for the right type of paper, proper size and styles of folders, and the much needed back to school clothes are sure to keep parents in the stores over the next few weekends. With gas prices hitting unbelievable levels this year, I’m sure much of the back to school shopping this year will be done at Wal-mart, Kmart, and other local outlets. This should a good thing for local restaurants as parents and students dash in for a quick lunch during their weekend spending sprees.

Not only is this a busy time for parents with younger kids but the college students are also getting geared up for the start of the fall semester. College class schedules are out and book buying is under way. Soon the mass migration of students will hit IPFW, St. Francis, and Taylor University in wave after wave of cars heading for the dorms and off campus housing. This time of year Interstate 69 looks like a garage sale on wheels with all the cars packed with clothes and furniture that is bound for some college campus. I’m definitely not looking to the time when I have to deal with that mess. I’ll be content for now to pony up the bucks for gym shoes, pencils and calculators.

I cant wait for the kids to be back in school. All I hear anymore is “Mom I’m bored” Your kids may not feel the same way but out in the country with few neighbors school bring some much needed activity

Online is shopping for the mall – o – phobic ( my own fear of spending too much! ). I give my high schooler a Visa gift card with a set $$ limit, and she buys what she wants. That way, she budgets. If she wants a $30.00 sweatshirt, she will have to forgo those must – have t shirts. She figures what she can spend. Since she pays for her own gas, she buys jeans, , shoes here locally… has worked like a charm…
