Well the events that have taken place over the last couple of month have finally come to a conclusion. Chris Hakes submitted his resignation at the Adams County School Board hearing held last night. I hope that those following this story now have a since of satisfaction that the right thing was done. I commend Chris Hakes for making the difficult decision, accepting responsibility and moving on with his life. Many people who have committed far worse offences have done far less to face up to their actions. This will hopefully allow Chris and his family to move on with their lives and begin rebuilding.

Admin- excellent points. This is the main cause of declining enrollment at NACS., and the infamous “brain drain” that plagues Indiana. Wasn’t there a roundtable discussion here in Decatur about this very subject?
Excellent points and I applaud you for starting this discussion. As “Concerned Mom” pointed out, there was a roundtable discussion on this not long ago, but did anything ever come of it? We seriously need jobs that do not involve the luxury industry in this town and I think the only way Decatur will draw those business is to develop more skilled workers. Doesn’t WorkOne try to teach classes on certain work skills? Are people not going to these classes? Are the welfare benefits too good to encourage people to seek training for employment?
JobWorks does a nice job of helping out those that are unemployed to get training. I dont think enough people are aware of them. I’ve used them serveral times to help pay for advanced classes that my employer wouldnt cover.
How many fleetwood employees are going to take another job right now, or are they just going to collect thier unemployment?
How many unemployed folks did Biggs bring to town to live in his govt subs apartments?
I would LOVE to see more buisnesses in Decatur but who are we going to have work there? I know the luxery auto buisnesses here in town. Revenge, Late Model Speed and Lingenfelters. How many local Decatur raised guys do they have working? Few–very few. Heck the Revenge guys came over here from Austrailia…
One good thing those shops brought people to Decatur. They have bought homes and are raising families and shopping at Gerbers etc etc etc.
Luxery buisness or not, they are all 3 booming and in turn giving more buisness to the Decatur owned companies. Myers body/Bodies exhaust/Minds eye graphics etc etc etc
um…Employer, I’m sorry but I don’t call repeated massive layoffs in the luxury industry “booming”. More like dying!!
not sure what the govt housing has to do with it. I was layed off while living in ohio years ago and had to use those homes but now own a home in the community and make far more than most after going back to school on a grant from JobWorks. I would recommend to anyone that has lost a job to go back to school while collecting their unemployment if that’s what it takes to improve the lifestyle for their family
The fact that they had to bring workers in from Austrailia is definatley a shame. It just proves that there is work to be done in Decatur to imporve the skill sets of the workforce
I’m not knocking the existing businesses I’m just curious why there has been no new growth in the job market.
The point about the sub housing is how many of the renters moved here from FW that were not employeed to start with?? So how are they going to find a job in Decatur when we dont even have public trans? Not that you really need it in Decatur, but point being, we dont have the opp there are in FW for jobs, so why move here? Brand new apartments is why….
As far as the luxery buisness booming or dying, I guess you have to look at what buisness, Fleetwood yes had lay offs, I dont knwo about Thunderbird, I only know about the performance car buisness and I know they are all 3 here in town doing well, of course I dont think they have any Decatur customers by looking at the lic plates on them. But have you seen LPEs lot–its full. Revenge just moved into a new building. I saw a Viper with out of state plates buzz by me the other day and I am sure they were here for one of the speed shops. THere will always be a small percent of the population that has more money than sence, and they will buy.
ok the point about low income housing makes more since now thanks for clearing that up
