If your not a big fan of Fort Wayne baseball this probably won’t interest you much. Not only has Fort Wayne built a new baseball stadium for the minor league baseball team but the team now has a new name: “Tin Caps” The former Fort Wayne Wizards will now be called the Tin Caps in honor of Johnny Appleseed. Now if I remember the story right he wore a tin pot on his head not a cap. Wouldn’t the Fort Wayne Potheads be more appropriate? Just kidding !! The new logo for the Fort Wayne baseball team is an angry apple wearing a tin cap, sort of reminds me of the “Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes”
I suppose they could have come up with a worse name for the team, but I’m sure if the gave it some more thought they could have been a bit more creative. Looking back the Wizards wasn’t all that great of a team name either. The Tin Caps will begin play next season in the brand new Parkview Field built in downtown Fort Wayne. The new look and team name are expected to bring more business, visitors and activities to the downtown Fort Wayne area.
Over the years Fort Wayne baseball games have been a great outing for families, Fort Wayne little league events, and inexpensive night of entertainment for everyone. I hope they keep their family fun type atmosphere that many of us enjoyed at the old stadium. The worst thing that could happen is that the team owners and stadium ignore this and focus solely on making money.

Terrible! I can’t believe this is what they came up with.
My understading is that the other options on the table were calling them the Sandbaggers or the Floods neither of those is very appealing either. I sure hope they didnt pay someone to come up with a name like Tin Caps. I think they would have been better off asking the local elementary schools to find a new name for the Fort Wayne Wizards.

I just heard this and can’t believe it. I don’t know which is worse; Tincaps or Mad Ants. And what’s up with the logo? They may not have had elementary school students come up with a team name, but it appears one of them did design the new logo.
How stupid! The Mad Ants and now this…we are a laughing stock in the real world of sports. We suck.
At least the FW Potheads would have sold merch, an angry apple with a stupid bowl on his head, yeah, good luck selling that tee shirt.
Actually this nickname fits in with the whole MiLB feel. MiLB names IMO should be funny and off the wall (see the Jamestown Jammers or Montgomery Biscuits). While I may not see a connection between Johnny Appleseed and Ft Wayne, I think the name is fun and geared to the lighter side of baseball (which should be the only side). Lighten up and have some fun with this Ft Wayne, could be worse (see Casper Ghosts)
People, this is a great name! It’s quirky and meaningful. Ten times better than another dull name like “bobcats” or “thunder”. These days, sports teams spend so much just to pick the most meaningless, irrelevant names for their teams.
The logo is pretty good too, except it’s that same style that you see on every logo today. All in all,”Tin Caps” is a breath of fresh air and a bold choice that with personality. kudos to ownership.
